Success was never going to be defined by profitability for GB News and TalkTV, at least in the mid-term. So far this has been borne out, with revenues small and viewing confined to niche audiences.

The two recently launched channels have become part of the broadcast news environment while diverging from its traditions. Their emphasis on opinion and commentary over news and analysis has influenced news agendas, political discourse and the TV news landscape more than their viewing figures suggest.

Now that the fairly elastic (and previously untested) boundaries for due impartiality set out in the Broadcasting Code are being stretched, it is only right that Ofcom look at them more closely. Although some change is to be expected, TV news' integrity as a highly trusted medium should be preserved.

This is the second of three reports in our annual review of vertical marketplaces (classifieds), focused on property, and follows Vertical marketplaces overview and recruitment classified outlook [2016-116]

Stamp duty reforms and the impact of the Brexit referendum triggered a -10% fall in UK residential property sales between April and October 2016 and the consensus among estate agents and commentators is that the property slowdown will continue into 2016/17 as buyer confidence recedes. Metrics and measurement, disclosure and cost remain as challenges for content marketing online, but growth is strong due to high commitment to spend from advertisers

Native advertising is growing sharply as a result of the shift in digital audiences and consumption to mobile devices, where limited screen size and usage modes favour formats that mirror the form or function of the platform and media

Publishers and advertisers are moving rapidly to exploit the opportunity. Publishers see unique native formats as a way to distinguish their ad offering in a highly commoditised internet advertising space, while advertisers and their agencies hope to get more bang for their buck

Between 2015 and 2020, we expect native advertising spend across Western Europe to grow by 156% to €13 billion, representing 52% of internet display and three quarters of net growth in internet display
